On August 20–21, BYD workers in Suqiao, Guilin, Guangxi went on strike, demanding that BYD comply with Guilin City’s minimum wage standard of 2,200 yuan. Since Suqiao Economic Development Zone is part of Guilin’s urban area, the workers argued that the Guilin standard should apply. However, BYD insisted on using the Yongfu County standard of 1,870 yuan. In the end, due to the intervention of local authorities, the strike failed.
