From March 27 to 30, dozens of workers at Changshu Huaxin Auto Parts Co., Ltd. in Jiangsu staged consecutive days of protests, demonstrating against the company’s use of covert layoffs. According to workers, following a sharp drop in orders, the company redirected what little work remained to temporary workers while forcing permanent staff onto unpaid leave — a tactic designed to pressure regular employees into resigning voluntarily, thereby allowing the company to avoid paying severance. Changshu Huaxin Auto Parts Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of Ningbo Huaxiang Group. Its predecessor, Shanghai Huaxin Automotive Rubber & Plastics Products Co., Ltd., was founded in 1993. The company was re-registered in Changshu’s Shajiabang area in 2017 and began full production in 2019.
