Family Protests at Guo’erzhuang Coal Mine After Denial of Medical Treatment Leads to Worker’s Death
(April 11, 2026) — On April 11, family members of a deceased worker blocked the main entrance of the Guo’erzhuang Coal Mine to demand accountability. The protest followed allegations that the mine refused to provide or facilitate medical treatment for the worker, who suffered from pneumoconiosis (black lung disease).
The denial of care reportedly caused the worker to miss the critical window for treatment, ultimately leading to his untimely death.
Guo’erzhuang Coal Mine is a primary production unit under the Jizhong Energy Handan Mining Group. It is located in Kuangshan Town, Wu’an City, which is under the jurisdiction of Handan City, Hebei Province.
