Standoff Erupts Between Bouyei Villagers and Authorities in Luodian, Guizhou, Over Seized Tourism Revenue (July 24, 2026)
On July 24, at the Dadaxiaojing scenic area in Moyang Town, Luodian County, Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou Province, Bouyei villagers asserting their rights clashed with government personnel, public security officers, and company staff who had come to drive them out; one villager was injured in the confrontation.
According to villagers, they are all residents from around the Dadaxiaojing scenic area who have long made their living ferrying tourists into the site by bamboo raft. Recently, however, local authorities, seeking to seize the scenic area’s revenue, forcibly handed over its operation to a government-linked shell company, “Minsheng Company.” After taking over, Minsheng Company set up checkpoints blocking roads near the scenic area, forcing tourists to take paid shuttle boats instead, while barring villagers from ferrying tourists by bamboo raft. On July 18, villagers launched a protest, gathering at the scenic area’s dock for several consecutive days.
