On July 15, several petitioning children were surrounded by security guards and government personnel near the State Bureau of Letters and Calls. On July 11, petitioners living in the underpass north of Taoran Bridge, near the Bureau, were entirely driven out; afterward, to prevent petitioners from moving back in, authorities began installing fences inside the underpass. On July 16, petitioners noticed that “spikes” had also been installed in the trees near the Bureau. Meanwhile, to prevent photography, police have begun using a “shame cloth” to shield petitioners while transporting them to detention at Jiujingzhuang.
