On August 17, in Qingshanhu District, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, a cancer patient was expelled from a hospital after falling more than 200 yuan behind on medical fees. After leaving the hospital, he entered the nearby Chaogou Shopping Plaza and at one point collapsed from severe pain.
According to the patient, he had already spent more than one million yuan on treatment. He was now penniless, and after being forced out of the hospital, he did not even have enough money for transportation home. A shop owner at the mall, seeing his situation, offered him several hundred yuan to help him through the immediate difficulty, but he declined.
