On June 17, a protest broke out at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District, Guangdong, during the 12th Shenzhen International Cross-Border E-Commerce Trade Expo and the 2026 Shenzhen Foreign Trade Import and Export Fair. Hundreds of exhibitors, frustrated by the scarcity of genuine buyers, staged a collective protest accusing the organizers of false advertising and demanding refunds of their exhibition fees. The standoff with a large police and security presence continued into the evening. Several exhibitors said the actual number of buyers present was far below what organizers had promised, leaving most booths deserted with little to no business activity. Exhibitors further alleged that organizers had hired people off the street to pose as buyers and circulate through the venue, creating a false impression of brisk trading.
